Career and Counseling Program
The Career and Counseling Program at the ARL incorporates Howard County Public School System's School Counseling curriculum in individual student planning, counseling, consultations and collaborative teaming to support Career Academy students at the ARL. The school counselor works with ARL administrators, staff, Career & Technology Education (CTE) curriculum personnel, and county-wide middle and high school counselors to identify, place and retain interested and qualified student candidates in various career academies. An important aspect of the counselor's role is to help provide ARL students with the attitude, knowledge and skills for life long success in the student's career choice. Students are invited to various course-related college and career presentations and experience the realistic aspects of their career interests.
The objective is to graduate students who will have a real passion in pursuing their career path. Integration of academic, career and personal/social skill development with an emphasis on setting realistic goals is an essential part of the counselor's role. The ARL school counselor works with the ARL staff and home school staff to also ensure that each student maintains eligibility to remain in their academy of choice and receives appropriate support through home, school and community resources.
