Senior Architectural Students Present their Designs to Professional Architects
arch.png
Senior students in the Architectural Design program at the ARL presented their design for this years design project to over 18 different professional architects and professors of architecture from Morgan State. The comments from all the architects were highly complimentary. Local architect Anthony Consoli said, “You (referencing Teacher, Mr. Hodge) should be very proud of your students' work, judging from what I observed myself & heard from other architects present. Your considerable gifts as an inspiring educator who demands quality come through very clearly. Regardless of what career your students choose to pursue in the future, your class will make them more successful & responsible, civic minded adults. You will be pleased to know that last night at our Board of Directors meeting for AIA Baltimore Sharon Day & I shared how impressed we were with your students' work and your excellent program.”

Construction Management Academy Juniors successfully bring the seven day Total Quality Management Project to a close.
Students designed, planned, managed and constructed 15 sawhorses. Final assembly line construction rendered 15 sawhorses within 30 minutes.
Special thanks to School administration and staff for their support.

Intergenerational Events
Students in the Allied Health and PC Systems Academies both had the opportunity to share their skills with Howard County seniors.  Allied Health students visited the Elkridge Senior Center and assisted the seniors in making Gingerbread Houses.  PC Systems students worked with seniors at the school to teach them some computer skills.

ARL Shadow Days
The Applications and Research Lab hosts Shadow Days every year to give 9th and 10th graders an opportunity to see the ARL programs in action.  The students are able to choose a program of interest, ride the ARL bus to and from the school, and sit through a class period in that particular academy.  Shadow Days also give the students a better feel for what courses are like at the ARL, an opportunity to meet the teachers, and a chance to ask current students in the program any questions.

On Monday, November 21, 2011, the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services provided an opportunity for the students and staff of the ARL to learn a bit about how Howard County is prepared to manage catastrophic events.  Executive Battalion Chief Charles (Chuck) King from the EMS Operations Division addressed the group providing an overview of the departments "Medical Ambulance Bus" (MAB), one of only a few that are in service in Maryland. Following Chief King's presentation the students and faculty toured the MAB.

This vehicle, funded with grant money from the Department of Homeland Security, is capable of providing services such as mass casualty support, mass evacuation of nursing homes / hospitals and a variety of other special needs services. It is equipped with considerable "state of the art" medical and electronic technologies. The MAB is stationed at the Bethany Fire Station (Station 8) and can be quickly deployed when called upon.

r       Students Attend the Annual American Institute of Architects Awards Program
The Architectural Design Academy students at the ARL had the opportunity  to display their Art Deco design projects at the annual American Institute of Architects Awards program at Goucher College this past Friday. This is the second year that our architectural design students and Instructor Robert Hodge have been invited. The students were able to meet and talk with over 80 award winning architects from the Baltimore area. This was a wonderful opportunity to see the designs created by best architects in the Baltimore region. The architects were very impressed with the students' knowledge and the quality work. Many of the architects stated that their work was college level.
