Update of Our Academies

Fri, 09/16/2016 - 9:26am

Dear ARL Parents & Students,
Recently, I had the fortunate opportunity to visit several of the ARL Academies, including the Architecture Design Academy, the Aerospace PLTW Academy, the Finance Academy, and the Emergency Medical Technician Academy. Our students were highly engaged in their areas of concentration and professionally communicated to me what their lessons and projects entailed. The Architecture Academy demonstrated how to use our state-of-art lazar cutting equipment to construct their tree house projects. The Aerospace Academy students were involved in building circuit boards as a precursor to designing and building circuitry used in mechanical-warning equipment. The EMT students reported to school on Monday during a non-school day to prepare for their certification testing. They were learning and practicing taking blood pressure readings on one another. Finally, the Finance Academy students, along with the Systems & Project Engineering Academy and the Construction Academy, had a wonderful opportunity to hear guest speaker Jahantab Siddiqui, Deputy Chief of Staff to County Executive Allan Kittleman, talk about the Ellicott City flood recovery process. Our students then brainstormed how they can assist in the recovery efforts.

I also want to thank the many ARL parents who volunteered to assist us this Friday with the Watermelon Celebration for our students. It has been a great opening to the school year. Thank you for sending your children to the ARL.  Please contact me if I can be of any assistance.  Sincerely,
